Workout Mistakes To Avoid [2021]
As normally observed, some exercisers usually postpone their workout sessions because they are so busy, exhausted after too long office hour duty, traffic, with dates, appointments and many other procrastination.
However, some seemingly intend to no longer do the workout because they donât see any results (even just a single ab) despite of the hard work which is really frustrating after all the effort, time, sweat and money spent for their dreams to look younger and slimmer.
The reality is, there are counter-productive workout habits they unconsciously partake that are actually sabotaging their workout progress and itâs important for you to know these.
Thus, we are going to identify here 8 workout mistakes to avoid for you to have a better and effective workout from now onâŚ
#1. Strike Anywhere
You hit here, you hit there, you are hitting everywhere without any program or plan what exercises you are going to do and what particular muscle group you are gonna be targeting.
To avoid this habit, you should always plan ahead, ask yourself and feel what workout your body needs so you would know what body parts you should be focusing with.
#2. Eager To Lift Heavier Weights
There seems to be a misconception of the saying, âthe heavier you lift, the faster your muscles growâ. This belief is being adapted especially by some newbies who wanted to lift heavier weights at once as soon as they are at the gym floor.
However, that is not always so as what you first need to consider much is your safety â you have to do this step by step for you to avoid possible injuries.
Hence, just lift the proper amount of weight you can and then increase it slowly once your body can handle more weights.
You always need to put this in mind for you to avoid any harm from happening similar to below who has beenâŚ
#3. Working Out Too Long

This gym habit is indeed risky as working out too long can harm your body and lead you to injuries due to exhaustion, dehydration and lost of energy.
It is a known fact that some gym goers have the belief that âthe longer you workout, the more muscles you gainâ which is the other way around because muscles wonât actually grow once over-trained.
Some gym fanatics apparently fail to recognize the necessity of recovery between workout sessions and insist their all-for-nothing habit. They donât seem to consider that when muscles are hardly broken, optimum result of workout canât be achieved instead.
#4. Too Much Talkative
There are these gym goers who love to talk and talk and talk if not on their cellphones, with their gym buddies while others are busy lifting and pumping weights.
You can see them in every corner of the gym looking for anyone they can chat and laugh with. Theyâre not at all ashamed that they are bothering otherâs focus and concentration.
If you are this type, you canât definitely gain any muscle or lose weight but you are just wasting your time and penny.

#5. Executing Reps Too Fast
You can often notice this every time you are at the gym floor.
Some exercisers seemingly have to rush oftentimes, as if they need to catch an urgent flight or have to go to the toilet for something.
If you want to be benefited the most, you need to execute every rep slowly but surely!
#6. Too Much Time On Cardio
You donât need to spend more time on cardio sessions if you aim to gain muscles and improve your strength so you can still have enough energy to pump and lift weights taking into consideration that cardio training can consume your reserved energy and this definitely limits the amount of intensity you can exert while on weight training.
Moreover, you as well need to note that cardio trainings can even consume your hardly gained muscles.
In order for you to have even more or just maintain that strong and sexy muscle, you need to allocate much of your energy on weight training rather than on cardio.
#7. Physically Present But Mentally Absent
This is another dangerous workout mistake at the gym â you are lifting heavy weights but your mind is anywhere else. You are perhaps day dreaming or thinking of some life challenges.
However, if you decide to have your workout, you have to make sure that you donât bring any office, family or personal issues and think of these over and over while doing the lifting.
You have to put your mind and focus in every exercise you execute to avoid any harm or injuries to happen and have a better workout experience.
#8. Feeding Your Muscles Before And After Workout Are Out Of Your Plan
The necessity of workout foods as emphasized in Pre And Post Workout Foods indeed play a major role throughout your effort in achieving your workout goal.
Never take these out of your workout plan as they are the ones responsible in fueling your body, recovering, repairing and building your muscles which simply means everything wonât be effectively realized without these two powerful couple â the carbs and protein.
If you donât have much time to prepare for the fresh meals, there are lots of supplements online to choose from which give you equal benefits and in fact more practical and convenient especially for the busy folks. If you want to check them out, you can visit the followingâŚ

Time in the gym is precious! Working 50 plus hours a week, plus going to school, if I can get to the gym, I cannot waste it! I see so many people making the mistakes that you talk about, it is no wonder they arenât seeing the gains!
I get in, go hard, get out. Working out for too long is a waste of time for sure. If you are lifting, try to shoot for 45 minutes total. Numerous studies have proven that our bodies wonât be able to give it 100% for much longer.
I agree that too many people spend too much time on cardio, trying to lose weight. The truth is, you can lose weight by eating right. So many people think they can use an elliptiacal or treadmill to undo the damage, but you cannot out exercise a bad diet.
Solid advice, thank you!
Hey, James!
Youâre apparently a very busy dude and canât afford to waste a single moment of your precious time at the gym. But just want to remind you not to ever rush your lifting and pumping when you hit the gym floor for a safer and better workout, okay?.
Meantime, grateful for your affirmation that youâve been seeing people doing those fitness mistakes which just result to âmore pains but no gainsâ.
Thanks as well for sharing some learning and thoughts. Well appreciated!
Be safe!

Really interesting and well put together article on the possible mistakes one can make when working out â Iâve actually made a few of these on occasion!Â
Iâm really glad to see that someone has finally tackled the subject of the âmouthy gym guy/galâ â this is so irritating. Iâm not the most talkative of guys at the best of times, so I really donât want to be bothered when Iâm doing any form of exercise. Unfortunately these types of people seem to join gyms for the social aspect as much as the fitness aspect!Â
What are your views on excessive liquids/drinks during the workout phase?
Hi, Chris!
Thanks if you found this article interesting and for being so honest in admitting youâve done few of these workout mistakes before occasionally.
Glad as well to learn youâve been noticing these talkative ones who are in their complete gym attire but do more chatting instead of pumping and lifting.
Meanwhile, I donât recommend drinking excessive liquids / drinks during workout sessions as this can make your tummy full which will limit your movement especially if youâre working out your abs. Thus, itâs always convenient to intake just moderate of these from time to time while your body is pretty active.
Grateful for your time and be safe!

Hi thanks for interesting post. You clearly come across as someone who has a lot of experience and knowledge of the subject you write about. I think you have nailed some key points that people do wrong at the gym. I remember first going to a gym and being a little lost as I had no idea what I was doing. Fortunately the trainers there gave me some great tips to start with and I found my way. Keep up the great work, thanks.Â
Hi there Kenny!
Glad to learn you found this post interesting. Just wonder if you happened to visit the gym again after that first experience.
However, youâve done the right thing by approaching the trainers as itâs always safe to ask than to pretend you know what youâre doing and put your self at risk.
Thanks for passing by and be safe!

When i started working out initially, i never understood the process involved so i committed a lot of these offenses. From working out too long to striking anywhere. I worked out one particular day, doing multiple bench sit ups that when i stood up, i passed out. Further on, i found the need to do things right before, during and after workout and that decision was the best so far because the results have been impressive since then. Thanks for the information, its really worth the read
Youâre welcome, Samson! Thanks as well for sharing your first learning experience working out at the gym which is seemingly unforgettable because youâve put your self at risk by striking anywhere and working out too long.
You were perhaps exhausted and dehydrated as you had been so eager that you were not able to plan your workout well, didnât eat your pre-workout meal / supplement and didnât drink enough water while sweating too much during that intense 1st day workout.
Glad to hear though that youâd been able to do things right eventually since then.
Have a great day and thanks for visiting by!
